Greetings Folks! I wanted to let everyone know that I have renamed and moved my blog. I am in the process of creating a photography business called Dancing Dog Photography. I will specialize in pet and family lifestyle portraiture. My official website is in the process of being designed, but you can keep up with my photography and meanderings at:

Quick….Spyder is standing still!

It has been five years since Phlash was a puppy! Oh, how one forgets that constant motion and busy-ness….! Puppies are either on or off. Even the older dogs have been sleeping more soundly when they have the opportunity. Spyder is one busy boy! Occasionally I am able to catch him standing still with my camera in hand!

Rock Toys!!

I spent the greater part of the day going through tutorials on lighting and finally needed to take a break. I grabbed my camera and followed the dogs outside. I had the best time watching Spyder entertain himself with a rock for about 15 minutes. He would grab it and then toss it up in the air and then stalk it and grab it again. It was fun trying to catch images of this game! The other dogs were not inclined to join in the game as you can tell. My challenge to you is to see if you can find his “special rock” in the following pictures……….

Let me introduce SPYDERSpyder in the newest member of our family. He is a 9 week old Australian Sheperd. He is quite a character, which he needs to be to survive in a house full of Standard Schnauzers! We are all having some fun times. On occasion he gets carried away and receives reprimands from both humans and canines! I have been able to get a few images of him, but I have to admit that many turn out just like the first one in this post. He is either on or off and when he is on, he is zooming!

The dogs have spent a lot of time playing in the snow and exploring and Spyder is quite happy to join right in.

We have a fish pond and the second day here, Spyder managed to slip into it. From the sounds coming out of him, you would have thought he was being attacked! He only got his back leg wet, but I imagine that the water was pretty cold. Needless to say, he is very cautious around the water, but I anticipate that to change when the weather gets warm. I bet that I won’t be able to keep him out!

Spyder is definitely enjoying his yard time and I frequently have to go find him after he has followed the other dogs out to the barn. He is fearless and ready for all adventures!

But there does come a time when rest is a good thing……

……and even Phlash is starting to warm up to him!!!! Can’t you just here the conversation going on in this picture…..
Spyder…..”no worry Phlash, I’ve got your back!”
Phlash…..”puppy, I don’t know who or what you are, but don’t you dare touch my butt!!”

SNOW!! SNOW!! AND THEN……. MORE SNOW!!!

Wow! Have we ever been getting snow here in Oregon. It looks like we are going to have a white Christmas this year. I can not remember ever seeing this much snow for as many days since I left Colorado! I am absolutely loving it. The good news is that I can stay home and watch it and not have to venture out into the world of insane drivers! I have truly enjoyed the challenge of taking photos in the snow. Since it is something that I have had infrequent opportunities to experience since I started getting serious about my photos, there has been a steep learning curve. I do think that I am slowly starting to “get it”!!! I thought that I would share some of the shots that I took this morning. The first one I took from my front door. I probably should find some sort of snow shovel!!!

Now, for THE THREE LITTLE BEARS!!!! While looking through my snow images, I noticed that I had taken pictures of our deck bears on several different days during this storm. It definitely shows the progress of the snow!!

Aussie Puppies!!!

I spent the last weekend at a Herding Clinic with Phlash. The clinic was awesome, but there was a definite distraction……a litter of beautiful Aussie puppies! I did take a little time to try and get some shots of them. I had several strikes against me…..

I was attending a clinic and really wanted to absorb as much as possible.
The weather did not always co-operate.
The puppy pen had terrible lighting and I did not take a flash!
My subjects would just not stay still……..LOL!!

I am only putting up a few shots on my blog, as I am not terribly happy with my photography, but I adore the subjects and want to share. I am putting an album of the shots on my Smug Mug site for anyone who needs or wants more “puppy” fixes and is forgiving of the image quality!

It always amazes me how puppies go from little soft masses to inquisitive little imps in just a few short weeks! The life they live and the experiences they have during that time is so key to the adult dogs that they will become. They need to be safely exposed to as many sounds, textures, obstacles, challenges and people as possible during that time. Tish definitely provided this litter with a Puppy Boot Camp of exceptional experiences in many things. I have no doubt that they will all become exceptional parts of their new human’s lives! While Tish was in California, they got to experience her friend Bob…….you can definitely tell how this worked out!!!!! LOL

Don’t you just love puppies??? One quick look and you just have to laugh and forget all of your troubles! A friend of mine, Tish recently had a litter of 8 Beardies…..well Tish didn’t, but her dog did! A couple of weeks ago, before my hearding lesson, I was able to get some shots of this crew! I had been forewarned by my friend Jamie of Cowbelly Pet Photography Seattle Blog, that I would need at least one assistant per puppy to really get a shoot such as this under control. But, that was impossible, so I just decided to do the “wing it” type of shoot! I figure that a little chaos is always good for the soul! I did have two trusty assistants Reilley, my daughter and Bob who was babysitting the gang while Tish was in California, but they were way too busy playing and not a whole lot of help…..LOL! I took a ton of shots, playing with the odds and did get some fun ones, even though I could never get a “perfect” group shot! For those who don’t know much about this breed, they are lovingly referred to quite often as Bouncing Beardies, which is a well earned distinction. They bounce in all that they do, which is why it was really hard to capture these little imps! But, I do have to say it was very fun trying! I am going to post some of my captures over the next couple of days! ENJOY!
